Abdominoplasty also called as tummy tuck, is a cosmetic plastic surgery which makes the abdomen firm. People opt for this surgery after pregnancy or major weight loss, both of which result in sagging tissues.
The procedure involves making an incision from hip to hip just above the pubic area and another to free the navel from the skin surrounding it. The detached skin exposes muscle and fascia. Sutures are used to tighten the muscle fascia wall. The skin that is in excess is removed and remaining skin is used to cover the defect. Liposuction is often employed here. The area is dressed and excess fluid is drained out.
Plastic surgery has been gaining ever increasing popularity thanks to the technological advances made in the field. Essentially, there are two types of plastic surgeries: reconstructive and cosmetic. Reconstructive plastic surgery mainly deals with removing deformities which may be genetic or caused by accident. These surgeries are mainly performed when the deformity starts to interfere with the proper functioning of the body part.
