These abnormalities can occur together or individually. Incomplete cleft lip is easier to fix and results in a more natural looking lip. If the cleft lip is extensive two surgeries may be required to close the cleft.

Cleft palate treatment is done by using a palatal obturator to see temporary results. This is a prosthetic device made to fit the roof of the mouth covering the gap. It can also be fixed with surgery but repetitive surgeries will be required as the patient grows. If the cleft extends into the maxillary alveolar ridge, it is corrected using the patients own bone tissue, obtained from the chin, ribs, or hip.

    i have a claft palate lip, mouth and i think it kind of owns me i hate when people just stare. but i know its not who i am i just wish people can see that. I have had 5 surgeries and the doctors said i should have more but i think i look normal enough.
